Its been windy and onshore for ages. This is no good for surfing unless you take a 6 hour drive North. Coincidentally I met someone who was in Raglan having done that. Luke (of the fine Pizza place in Kuotunu that I've mentioned
before) was in town having
just been up there. I ran into him by chance as he was chatting with Jimmy. Jimmy, who had been house-sitting for us, had run into him by chance too. Jimmy's car had broken down outside his pizza place about a month ago and it seemed an odd coincidence for us all to run into each other having not met for a long while.
Anyway, I didn't have to go too green at his tall tales because the wind stopped blowing and there was surf in Raglan. So after a moon about town with the new toy off I went for a surf:

Sunrise over the points |

And back up the West coast (looking North) |

A jetty at Raglan Wharf |

Raglan's fishing fleet |

Raglan Castle.. |

Timo surfing. This is where and what I'd been doing 10 minutes earlier |

Another surfer |
|
1st day of usable surf in ages and it was a weekend so it was bound to busy |
|
A good day for fishermen too |

Alex who is my friend and has a hot tub. The two are not related, in the same way as Dougal's comment that 'it was cold' was not related to me relieving myself post-surf |
After a great surf with Alex, Dougal, Timo and a few others I went and warmed up in Alex's hot tub. Wow! This isn't what I expect from winter in New Zealand. Poorly insulated, single-glazed draughty home. Shall we do something about it? Nah! Let's put a hot tub on the deck and take our minds off it...
Anyway, after a good morning's surf, the afternoon was a mission to find the stoat trapping girls up Karioi:

Part II of Saturday: Off up Karioi |
To be continued..
